The Breast Cancer Review for Primary Care Providers has been revised!

The current version represents changes to both content and format, which are written and designed for helping our visitors find information quickly and easily. Browse the Breast Cancer Review by topic or read it entirely from beginning to end. Use the site Search feature to quickly find text about specific areas of interest. All nine topic areas are coupled with an additional resource page of related links. CME Resource! Self-Study Modules for Clinicians on Medscape™

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has teamed with Medscape™ from WebMD™ to develop an online continuing medical education (CME) program called Follow Up of Abnormal Clinical and Imaging Findings of the Breast: Five Self-Study Modules for Primary Care Clinicians. The five self-directed, interactive training modules are designed to educate clinicians on providing appropriate and timely care to women with early signs of breast cancer, and to train physicians on the latest evidence, protocols, and guidelines around detecting breast cancer. Endorsed by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and acknowledged by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the modules were edited and certified for CME credit by Medscape. New content in the CDS PROGRAMS section!

New tools and resources for Cancer Detection Programs:Every Woman Counts providers are now available to assist with improving the quality of the Online Data Entry required by the program. An expanded list of Frequently Asked Questions -- with Answers -- is now available with new sections specifically addressing data entry issues. The CDP:EWC Tools and Links section offers "one-stop-shopping" for easy access to the many websites and materials needed for program participation. A mock data entry application with Screen and Follow-up forms is available for staff to explore and practice their data submission -- immediate automated feedback is provided to assist in understanding how the system works! CDP:EWC Mock Online Forms for Data Entry Practice and Training

A new tool is now available to help program providers learn about the CDP:EWC data entry Internet Application's requirements and expectations. Mock Online Forms mimic the functionality of the actual data entry Internet Application located on the Medi-Cal website. PLUS, the Mock Online Forms offer helpful tips and informational feedback messages. You can add new demo recipients and/or enter screening and follow-up information to learn how the system responds. Breast Cancer Diagnostic Algorithms - New 3rd Edition Available

The Breast Cancer Diagnostic Algorithms for Primary Care Clinicians have been updated by the CDS Breast Expert Workgroup (June 2005). These Algorithms are intended to help primary care clinicians confidently guide women through the complete work-up of various breast abnormalities. Two new resources have been added to our websites page this month. Please visit The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) to read about their latest research on the causes of cancer, the mechanisms of carcinogenesis, and strategies for cancer control. As well as information about group projects and protocols, this World Health Organization affiliate offers online access to a variety of informative publications for health care professionals.

We are also featuring Behind the Cancer Headlines - a resource providing the latest news in cancer prevention, treatment, and research. Online articles summarize information from medical journals, conferences, and other authoritative sources. Clinicians will benefit from frequent visits to this free news service by finding important studies on breast cancer from April 2002 through today. Posted: February 2005
