Physical Examination

As part of the complete physical examination, the CBE needs to be thorough and should preferably be performed on days 5-10 of the menstrual cycle.

CBE and mammographic imaging of the breasts of young premenopausal women can be less diagnostic due to breast nodularity (from the increased glandular-to-fat ratio) when compared to the more homogeneous breasts of postmenopausal women.

The Core Competencies of a thorough, standardized CBE are included in Appendix A-3 of the Algorithm Booklet.
